shuttle rides = someone else drives

the shuttle is a lot more posh than the city bus, so I try to catch it whenever I can. It's a great way to let someone else do the driving, so that I have more reflection and device time. Too much life out here on the west coast is spent behind the wheels of cars. It takes so much intention to pay attention for the aberrant driving of others, so even if you can listen to an mp3 while driving or something, your attention is severely divided. Riding the shuttle helps me gain back enough device time to make regular blogging possible. I cant say that I would be so dedicated to keeping this up were it to eat into other activity time.

Besides, where but on a college shuttle will you find such blatant and hilarious disregard for posted rules?

Twitter, Second Life, iPhone

My digital tools twine into tighter webs with one another, spanning a bridge between this world and the Metaverse. I use Twitter on my iPhone, and Second Life and Twitter just linked up, and to top it? News of a Japanese company developing a SL Client for phones. (Though I have to admit I doubt it will have anything to do with the iPhone, even though I can think of some really novel ways a palm sized touch screen could be used in Second Life.)

with phones we are all at standby 24/7 to our social realities... I never turn my phone off anymore, unless out in the woods with no service area. Satellite coverage makes that a rarity... I kind of find it a treat that I live so close to a cell hole- Mt Hood National Forest. Its kind of like these spaces without digital hookups become their own unique kind of landscape all of a sudden. Does preserving space where its not possible to connect as we become more and more entwined with technology matter?

For my iPhone update that will include some Flash support. Of course they added iTunes, and one more channel of marketing to my poor over-saturated brain. Now if only they would give me some love for teaching and learning tools already made!!

Muscle Memory? Interesting Observation

When I type my passwords in on the iPhone for different accounts I have scattered all over the internet, I sometimes find myself having to close my eyes and type the password out on an imagined kwerty keyboard. I can't remember the password to type it into the smaller format keyboard of the iPhone until I do it in my mind "old style". Isn't that hilarious? I wonder what that is? It makes me wonder if my passwords now reside more in my fingers sometimes, and am I actively thinking when I quickly type one in, or does it just flow out of my hands? Is that possible? Do our nerves remember motion to that extent? Is that what the ability to type is? Gods, I'm ignorant. :)

Yes, we all knew the price drop on the iPhone was an inevitablilty. But two months after release you drop 200.00 off of the cost and offer those you screwed in the first place to get your slab lacking Flash and Java to market first a 100.00 vaseline credit?

while I was skeptical to purchase an iPhone hot off the presses because of this and many other reasons, you have now assured that I will never purchase another Apple product until it's been on the market a while, period. I won't insult your great designers by lying and saying you won't seduce me into spending money on another Apple product, but its going to be a loooooooong time, to work off the asswhipping I've just recieved ala iPhone.

Congratulations, Steve. You've royally pissed off your core. May you lose a few of us over such market abuse. Count me as one gone, and I'm a vociferous bigmouth when unpleased. I do hear word of mouth advertising can be your best friend or worst foe.

Mass Transit more useable

A number of times this weekend while running around Chicago, I had need of looking up directions and locations on Google maps. It got me thinkng that not only is availability or access a factor of my growing adoration of this device, my love is also for the ease of use each tool affords. For instance, the alarm. I use the alarm function on my iPhone a lot. I had an alarm on my Razr, but though I loved the look of it and was proud to use it, I didn't use the auxilary features much at all- they were awkward. I would make the argument that I receive
possitive social feedback when I use my iPhone, that is probably a supporting factor

I think I also found using the Internet on my phone and paying by the bit intimidating financially, so I didn't use it for things like actively checking transit info. Again ease of use wins out.

And of course now we're down in a tunnel and I don't have service.

Grrrrr.

lately when I attempt to mblog from my iPhone the app shuts down on me and boots me out of Safari full stop. I'm not sure what is up with that, but it sure does cheese. oh, and I think the Apple peeps forgot cut and paste. Which I also find an annoying shortsight. Cut andpaste seems like a basic non negotiable affordance of a text generation tool. How could this have been missed?

An apparent change

when asked the other day how I thought the iPhone had changed me, at that point I said in no great way, but perhaps what I wasn't considering is that minute change over time is profound. I am blogging on the bus again, and it made me realize that I don't dread down time anymore - for instance, riding the bus. my mind that seems to crave hyper stimulation, that bores easily in the quiet thinks this device was made for it. It has also made me aware of where the bumpiest parts of the bus are to sit, since these keys don't mix well with bumpy roads. That's all right, it has made for good typing practice in adverse conditions. You never know when that could come in handy...

How does the iPhone change me?

If you've ever been poor and then worked hard to make sure you no longer have to worry so much about where your next meal is coming from- that's kind of how access to information now feels. When my mind hungers I feed from the Google trough.

Makes Office Parties Better

You know how usually sitting in an office party in the afternoon post lunch leads to a coma? Add the sugar of farewell cake and a few minutes of iBlogging and the distraction effect is better than Red Bull!

A Bus Less Boring

While I wasn't planning on riding the bus this afternoon and was at first a little chappy about it, I then took a deep breath and realised - I don't have a boring bus ride ahead of me.. I have an opportunity to iBlog! My mad keyboarding skillz are rapidly improving, but I wouldn't hazard to guess what my typing speed is. Oh, and the bus wiggle is making me a little less accurate, but nothing too bad. I've got the iPhone turned landscape and that really helps. I would hate to have bigger fingers and try to use these keys tho.

iPhone Love

hooray for a pocket full of info love! Instead of sitting in the car being frustrated that every restaurant that we are trying this evening has waiting lines out the doors, I can ignore the masses prancing at the food trough to instead focus on tip typing practice (finger, that is.) F and I are out dinner hunting, and travelling out SUnnyside road. So far, our prospects have amounted to Shari's, McDonalds, none of it food. Too bad the iPhone can't tell me what we are hungry for... neither can Google for that matter dammit.

Ah well. No flash, java or appetite engine..

Perhaps its time for me to hop into the blogosphere, now that I have a device (my iPhone!) that will allow for me to use the down moments more effectively~ I've set up this blog to test the iPhone on a 2.0 'web app'.
